Polybase is our flagship product: an all-in-one, real-time collaboration platform that brings messaging, video calls, task management, documents and AI agents into a single place — on the web, the desktop and the phone in your pocket. We build and run it together with external collaborators, and it’s where a lot of Pangaea’s engineering thinking gets put to the test.
One place for the whole team
Most teams stitch together a chat tool, a video tool, a task board, a docs app and an AI assistant — and pay the tax of context-switching between all of them. Polybase collapses that stack into one coherent product:
- Real-time messaging with channels, search and presence.
- Video & audio calls powered by a built-in WebRTC SFU, with collaborative cursors for working together live.
- Task management with status workflows, comments and boards.
- Documents with a rich editor, plus extraction from PDF, DOCX and XLSX — including OCR for scanned files.

Built for every device
Polybase isn’t a web app with a wrapper. It ships as a genuine cross-platform product:
- Web & desktop — a React 19 single-page app, packaged as a native desktop app with Electron.
- Mobile — a React Native (Expo) app for iOS and Android, with native WebRTC calling.
- Self-hostable — a single Docker image runs the whole stack and can be deployed per-tenant to any domain.
Under the hood
The backend is a custom PocketBase server written in Go, extended with the pieces a real-time product actually needs: a WebRTC SFU and call signaling, a collaborative-cursor server over WebSockets, full-text search, document extraction with Tesseract OCR, an AI agent runner with SSE streaming, push notifications (Web Push and Expo), TURN credential provisioning and a Django-inspired migration system. The frontend leans on TanStack Router and Query, Zustand, Lexical and Tailwind, with Playwright and Vitest keeping it honest.
Why it matters
Polybase is the clearest answer to “what does Pangaea actually do?” — we don’t just consult on software, we build and operate an ambitious product end to end, across three platforms, with real users depending on it. Living with those decisions is what keeps our engineering grounded.
